Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, met with Ambassador Michele Quaroni, Ambassador of Italy in Cairo, to discuss ways of future cooperation to enhance partnership in environmental and climate investment.
The two sides discussed the possibility of cooperation in the field of packaging waste recycling, where the minister referred to Egypt's experience in preparing the national strategy to reduce the use of single-use plastic bags within the framework of preparing the waste management law, which is looking for suitable alternatives to plastic bags, and also promoting the principle of extended product responsibility with A number of companies, expressing their aspiration to learn about Italian technology in providing alternatives to the use of plastic, especially in the field of packaging, and to start a partnership in it as a pioneering model for cooperation between Egypt and Italy, especially with Egypt’s adoption next year of the first framework agreement on plastic pollution, and also the need of Egyptian companies during the period Coming to localize technology in the field of packaging waste recycling, after completing the extended product liability strategy.
