After Dr. Wassim Shaheen's term as president of the Faculty of Management at the Lebanese American University in Beirut came to an end, Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Middle East Economic Association (MEEA), which was founded in the United States of America in 1978. Dr. Mohieldin was also elected to serve as the association's president.

Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin's election makes him the thirteenth chairman of the association's board of directors, which is made up of renowned economists, academics, and researchers with expertise in various facets of the Middle Eastern economies. Young economists from universities and research institutions around the world are also members of the association.
