Dr. Hani Swailem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, affirmed Egypt's keenness to support development in all African countries, and to accelerate progress in achieving sustainable development goals, especially the sixth goal concerned with the water sector.
He pointed to Egypt's assumption of the presidency of the Council of African Water Ministers "AMCAO" for the next session during the years 2023 and 2024, pointing to Egypt's endeavor to enhance aspects of cooperation between various African countries.
This came during a meeting between the Minister of Irrigation and Suleiman Adamu, the Nigerian Minister of Water, where they discussed ways to strengthen the Council of African Water Ministers (AMCAO).
Swilam referred to the council's role in enhancing cooperation to face the water challenges facing the countries of the African continent, especially in light of the rapid growth of population and the negative impact of climate change on water.
