Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, met with the President
of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, UNCCD, and former Minister
of Water and Forests of Côte d'Ivoire, Alain Richard Donohue, to discuss
bilateral cooperation to achieve a joint initiative during COP27.
The Minister of Environment welcomed the President of the
United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and indicated that it was
important to bring together the Conference to Combat Desertification, COP15,
the Climate Conference, COP27 and the Conference on Biological Diversity, COP15,
according to the initiative of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, as these
agreements were born together in 1992, and the Minister emphasized that these
agreements deal with the same environmental issues, which are inseparable from
each other.
For his part, Donohue appreciated the cooperation with Egypt
and stressed that it is a great opportunity for Africa to chair both
conferences: COP15 and COP27. He also indicated that the areas of cooperation
between Egypt and Cote d'Ivoire could include combating deforestation and
agriculture because Egypt can help with new agricultural technologies.
