Dr. Khaled Abdul Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and
Scientific Research received, on Tuesday. Mohammed Tharut, representative of
the University of Arizona, American and Professor of the University's
Department of Physics and Light; To examine the aspects of cooperation between
the two sides, in the presence of Dr. Mahmoud Saqr, President of the Academy of
Scientific Research and Technology, Wed. Tariq Ali Dean of the Institute of
Laser Research and Applications at Beni Suef University, at the Ministry's
headquarters.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister stressed the
depth of the historical relations between Egypt and the United States of
America, especially in the areas of higher education and scientific research,
which reflect the bonds of friendship between the two countries, noting the
political leadership's desire to benefit from the global experiences in the
development of Egyptian education.
The meeting also discussed a draft proposal for the
establishment of central laboratories; To solve the problems of society and
meet the needs of the industry in Egypt, as well as to achieve the priorities
of the Sustainable Development Plan (Egypt's Vision 2030), especially in
priority areas such as: Desalination of water and energy by taking advantage of
all the scientific and practical capabilities and facilities of Egyptian
universities, centres, institutes and research bodies, in the light of their
potential and distinguished human cadres, as well as benefiting from joint
expertise in the field of science and technology in order to contribute to the
achievement of a comprehensive renaissance in Egypt.
