The National Authority for Remote Sensing signed a cooperation
protocol with the National Center for Housing and Building Research, as a
framework to support the state’s efforts to achieve integration between its
institutions, and to harness scientific research represented by the
authority to serve the projects implemented by the center and in line with
Egypt’s 2030 vision to achieve sustainable development goals.
In the report submitted to the Minister of Higher Education and
Scientific Research, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, the head of the National
Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, Dr. Muhammad Zahran, said that
the protocol includes a number of items, including conducting Geotechnical
studies to determine the best sites for various development projects, and
designing protection works from Geological, engineering, and natural hazards,
and the selection of suitable building materials sites in new urban
communities, using applications of remote sensing and geographic information
systems.
Zahran added that under the protocol, remote sensing techniques
will be used to assess natural hazards (floods, rockslides landslides,
encroaching sand dunes), and suggest appropriate protection methods.
