As Egypt's climate summit approaches... The United Nations directs States to do better

The United Nations stated that the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference had begun in Bonn, Germany, and was aimed at paving the way for the success of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh next November.

This is the first time that governments have met since the conclusion of COP 26 in Glasgow, Scotland, last November, which saw the successful finalization of the operational details of the 2015 Paris Agreement, paving the way for its implementation.

During its meeting in Bonn, Germany, Governments will focus on working in key areas of mitigation and adaptation to climate change and supporting developing countries, loss and damage, in accordance with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Patricia Espinosa, speaking at the opening of the Bonn Conference, emphasized the need for Governments to take "policy interventions and decisions in each of these areas in order to achieve a balanced package".
