Dr. Hani Swailem,
Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, said that his participation in the
World Water Week comes in response to the invitation received from Sweden to
participate in the activities of this important event, and in order to achieve
communication and coordination with various countries of the world regarding
water issues, and ways to deal with various challenges that facing the water
sector.
The statements of the Minister of Irrigation came upon his
arrival in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, to participate in the World Water
Week, which deals with the most important issues of water resources and their
relationship to achieving sustainable development. Upon his arrival in
Stockholm,
Swilam-Ali Hashem,
for his participation in the activities of the World Water Week, met Ricardo
Mina, Director of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction
(UNDRR).
He discussed the arrangements being made between the
Egyptian government and the UN regarding the COP27 climate summit, as
preparations are underway for intensive international events linking water
issues and climate change. The Minister of Irrigation praised the fruitful
cooperation with the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, which is
participating in organizing the Water Pavilion at the Climate Summit.
He invited the organization's representatives to participate
in the Fifth Cairo Water Week; To present the organization's efforts in the
field of early warning systems related to extreme weather events.
During the meeting, Swilam explained the ministry's efforts
in the field of protection from the dangers of torrential rains in Egypt, which
aim to protect citizens and protect facilities and infrastructure.
Ricardo Mina reviewed the various activities of the UN closely related to water issues, stressing the importance of activating the axis of early warning systems for disaster reduction, at the UN Conference for Midterm Review of Water Decade, to be held next March in New York.
