Al-Quseir: The agricultural sector is the cornerstone of building food systems

11/20/2023

Mr. Al-Quseir, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, delivered a speech during the high-level round table on the national platform of the “Novi” program, in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, which was organized by the Ministry of International Cooperation with the participation of the Ministers of Electricity, Renewable Energy, International Cooperation, Water Resources, Irrigation, Transport, and Environment. In addition to the heads and representatives of international financial institutions: Ms. Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Gerardine Mukeshimana, Vice-President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, Gelsomina Vigilotti, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank, representatives of the African Development Bank, and other multilateral development partners. And dualists.

Al-Quseir said that climate change represents an existential threat to many countries and societies in a way that it is no longer possible to postpone the implementation of climate-related pledges and commitments, as adapting to the effects of climate change will be more difficult and costly in the future and the rights of future generations will be lost if radical measures are not taken. To combat climate change now and before it is too late

He added that countries affected by climate change, especially developing ones, cannot rely on loans to finance adaptation, mitigation, flexibility and just transition programs, and from here comes the importance of the international commitment to fulfill the concessional financing required to enable them to build their agricultural and food systems in a sustainable and more resilient manner.
