Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, confirmed Egypt's endeavor to support the global agenda in the field of water and climate, by highlighting this important file during the activities of the Climate Conference (COP27).

He pointed out the launch of the Action for Adaptation in the Water Sector (AWARe) initiative during the climate conference, calling on Bangladesh to join this initiative that supports developing countries in confronting climate change.

This came during a meeting held by the Minister of Irrigation with Nazmul Ehsan, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Water Resources in Bangladesh, on the sidelines of the activities of the Sixth Cairo Water Week.

The Minister of Irrigation explained the importance of joint cooperation and exchange of experiences between Egypt and Bangladesh in the field of water management and coastal protection, and working to enhance the field of training and raise the efficiency of workers in the water sector in both countries.

Sweilem pointed out the similarity of the water situation in Egypt and Bangladesh, in light of both countries having river deltas, which are affected by climate change, as the deltas face similar challenges resulting from sea level rise, which affects the increase in groundwater salinity in coastal areas and beach erosion, in addition to weather phenomena. Extreme extremes in coastal areas, which necessitates implementing projects to protect beaches and taking measures to achieve environmental and salt balance in coastal areas.

The activities of the “Sixth Cairo Water Week” began last Sunday, with the title “Working on Adaptation in the Water Sector for Sustainability,” and will continue until November 2, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The week's activities include holding many high-level meetings, regional workshops, and technical sessions, as well as presentations and contributions from prominent international speakers, and the presentation of scientific research from experts, professors, students, university graduates, and school students.
