The Japanese Foreign Minister's spokeswoman, Kobayashi Maki, described the role played by Egypt in ending the unrest and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict as "pivotal and important," stressing Japan's commitment to working with international partners, especially Egypt, to reach a solution to this crisis.
The Japanese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman appreciated the step to restore work at the Rafah land crossing, to deliver humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip, adding: “We are satisfied with this extremely important measure, and knowing that the process of delivering humanitarian supplies has begun for the first time since the outbreak of unrest and the recent conflict between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.” .
She explained that Japan provided an emergency humanitarian assistance package worth $10 million for the benefit of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, noting her country’s readiness to consider providing additional aid at the appropriate time “based on needs and developments in the situation.”
She also affirmed Japan's support for a solution of two Israeli and Palestinian states side by side, in order to achieve lasting peace and stability in the Middle East region, as Maki indicated: "We must not allow the current situation and the existing crisis to hinder the chances of achieving peace in the Middle East."
