On a significant day for the maritime transport sector in Egypt, and in line with the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to transform Egypt into a regional hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade, and the Ministry of Transport's implementation of a comprehensive plan to develop the maritime transport sector and all Egyptian seaports, including Safaga Port, and to maximize the benefits of Egypt's distinguished geographical location and its competitive advantages to serve international trade and increase its share of transit trade, Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Minister of Transport, witnessed the launch of the commercial trial operation of the Safaga 2 multipurpose terminal, part of the plan to establish the Grand Safaga Port. The terminal's berths saw the arrival of the first two vessels: the UGR Al-Samha, arriving from Singapore Port with 5,000 cars on board, and the Sven Prosper, arriving from King Abdullah Port with 2,642 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). It is worth noting that the Greater Safaga Port comprises (Safaga Port 1 – the current Safaga Port – the multi-purpose terminal “Safaga 2” – the dry bulk and Ro-Ro terminal “Safaga 3” – Safaga 4, which includes the construction of 3 berths with a length of 2 km and a draft of 17 meters, and a shipyard for repairing commercial vessels).
