The official website of the Egyptian Presidency published a video of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi touring the city of Alexandria, accompanied by French President Emmanuel Macron, in the presence of the heads of delegations from countries participating in the inauguration of the new headquarters of Senghor University, as well as Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary-General of the International Organization of the Francophonie.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson for the Presidency, stated that the two presidents toured the tourist promenade on the Alexandria Corniche, arriving at the entrance to the historic Qaitbay Citadel.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson, indicated that the two presidents listened to an explanation about the history of the construction of the Qaitbay Citadel, in the presence of Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities. They also listened to a detailed presentation on the underwater archaeological excavations of the remains of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, delivered by Dr. Mohamed El-Sayed, Chief Inspector of the General Department of Underwater Antiquities at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and Dr. Thomas Faucher, Director of the Alexandria Center for Studies at the French Ministry of Scientific Research. They also reviewed the archaeological and historical treasures recovered from various periods.
