Egypt Leads African Initiative in Support of the Unity and Sovereignty of Sudan and Somalia During Peace and Security Council Session

In implementation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives to provide all forms of support to Sudan and Somalia within the bilateral and multilateral frameworks, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, chaired the ministerial session of the Peace and Security Council on Thursday, February 12, regarding developments in Somalia and Sudan. The session was held under Egypt's presidency of the Council at the African Union headquarters.

The session was attended by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya, Angola, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Nigeria, Eswatini, Sierra Leone, Equatorial Guinea, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon, and Botswana, as well as the Head of the League of Arab States Office to the African Union, the Head of the African Union Office to the United Nations, the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Sudan, and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to the African Union. High-level representatives from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Algeria, and Burundi, and the Deputy Executive Secretary of IGAD also participated.
