The National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) hosted an expert session titled "Business and Human Rights: From National Frameworks to Effective Implementation," chaired by Dr. Ahmed Ihab Gamal El-Din, with the participation of over 25 experts and representatives from economic bodies, the private sector, trade unions, and international organizations.
During the session, the NCHR President affirmed that
respecting human rights is vital for investment sustainability and
competitiveness, stressing that corporate responsibility must extend beyond
charity to preventing negative impacts and ensuring accountability, while translating
legislation into tangible outcomes. Meanwhile, council member Dr. Mohamed
Mamdouh called for a UN-aligned national action plan tailored to Egypt’s
economic priorities, as participants—including representatives from GAFI, EGX,
the ILO, and the Egyptian Trade Union Federation—discussed human rights due
diligence and workers' rights to balance economic growth with basic rights
protection.
