Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Condemns Targeting of Mecca and Medina, Demands Immediate End to Houthi Attacks
10/26/2026

His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, renewed his strong condemnation of the Houthi attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, demanding an immediate halt to them and emphasizing Al-Azhar's absolute rejection of anything that jeopardizes the Kingdom's security and the safety of the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors.

Al-Azhar stressed that approaching the holy sites constitutes a sinful and direct aggression that provokes the feelings of nearly two billion Muslims worldwide, as well as an attack on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which cares for these sites held dear by every Muslim.

The Grand Imam renewed his call for the urgent formation of a mediation and de-escalation committee comprising the nation's wise leaders to defuse conflicts and end disputes among members of the same nation, thereby sparing blood and safeguarding national security, stability, and the assets of future generations.
