Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi, Head of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), stated that the Egyptian pharmaceutical market is experiencing continuous growth. He noted that the market’s size accounts for approximately one-third of the entire pharmaceutical market in Africa, reflecting Egypt’s significant role in the manufacturing and distribution of pharmaceutical products across the continent.
Speaking at the "Egypt 2026" forum, Al-Ghamrawi explained that Egypt possesses substantial pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities—supported by a large number of production facilities—which enhances the country's potential for export expansion and strengthens its position on the global pharmaceutical industry map.
He added that about 90% of the medicines circulating in the Egyptian market are produced domestically, emphasizing that the sector's manufacturing capacity is a key factor in ensuring the availability of medicines and fostering opportunities for expansion into foreign markets.
The Head of the Egyptian Drug Authority also underscored the importance of raising public awareness regarding pharmaceuticals, including the use of available alternatives under the guidance of physicians and pharmacists. This, he noted, helps ensure that patients receive appropriate treatment while maintaining a steady supply of medicines in the Egyptian market.
