Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, participated on Monday, September 7, in the meeting of the "Arab Ministerial Committee tasked with international action to confront illegal Israeli policies and measures in occupied Jerusalem," held on the sidelines of the 166th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level in Cairo.
Confronting Illegal Israeli Policies and Measures
In his address, Minister Abdel-Aty emphasized that East Jerusalem is occupied Palestinian territory and that its final status cannot be determined by unilateral measures or the imposition of a fait accompli. He warned against any infringement upon the historical and legal status quo of the holy sites, particularly the Haram al-Sharif/Al-Aqsa Mosque, or the imposition of any temporal or spatial division within it.
He also stressed the need to protect Islamic and Christian holy sites and guarantee freedom of worship and access to them, reiterating Egypt's full support for the Hashemite custodianship of the holy sites in Jerusalem and its appreciation for the role played by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in protecting them and preserving the status quo there.
