Egypt and Switzerland Sign Agreement to Promote Sustainable E-Waste Management Until 2029
6/29/2026

Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment, and Dr. Andreas Baum, the Swiss Ambassador to Egypt, signed a grant agreement for the "Circular Electronics Initiative in Egypt" project. The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, in the presence of Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates' Affairs. This initiative aims to support the sustainable management of electrical and electronic waste and promote the transition to a circular economy.

Dr. Awad emphasized that the project represents a new milestone in Egyptian-Swiss cooperation and reflects the depth of the strategic partnership between the two countries in the fields of sustainable development and environmental protection. She noted that the initiative comes at a time of increasing interest in the safe management of electronic waste, which is one of the fastest-growing types of waste globally.

The project is scheduled to run until June 30, 2029, supporting the state's efforts to increase reuse and recycling rates, reduce emissions, enhance resource efficiency, and solidify Egypt's position as a regional hub for the circular economy and sustainable waste management.
