French media reported on Monday that an explosion was heard near the Russian consulate in Marseille, adding that firefighters were at the scene.

The police said, "We are waiting for additional information and cannot confirm anything at the moment."

The La Marseillaise newspaper reported that the area is surrounded by municipal police.

The admiral in charge of the Marseille naval firefighters battalion is expected to arrive at the scene, and reinforcements from the national police will be deployed to the area.
