The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Hani Swailem, emphasised the significance of scientific research in addressing global concerns, particularly those related to water and climate change and the detrimental repercussions that follow from them.

He stressed how important it was for the Ministry's policies and initiatives to be supported by solid scientific evidence, pointing to the role that universities and research institutions play in bringing about genuine change on the ground.

This occurred while the Minister of Irrigation was taking part in a conversation session on scientific research in the areas of water and sustainable agriculture that the German Agency for Cultural Exchange (DAAD) and "Heliopolis University" had organised.

He explained that Egypt, in cooperation with many international partners, will launch an international initiative to adapt the water sector to climate changes, during the upcoming Cop27 climate conference.

He pointed out that the initiative deals with water and climate challenges at the global level, with a focus on developing countries, which are among the world's most affected by climate change.
