European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen affirmed that the completion of the Gaza ceasefire agreement today, Monday, in Sharm el-Sheikh, is a historic achievement, announcing that the EU will provide funding for the reconstruction of Gaza.

Von der Leyen said in a post on her official X account that the return of the Israeli hostages is "a moment of joy for their families and a moment of relief for the entire world... It means the possibility of turning a new page and starting a new chapter."

She emphasized that Europe as a whole supports the peace plan brokered by the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, noting that Europe stands ready to contribute to its success "with all our strength, particularly by providing support in the areas of governance and reform of the Palestinian Authority." She added, "We will be an active force within the donor community for the Palestinians, and we will provide European Union funding for the reconstruction of Gaza."
