Egypt, African Union seek 'unified vision for energy transformation' ahead of COP27

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla, held  talks with Amani Abou-Zeid, Commissioner for Energy and Infrastructure of the African Union, where they discussed a unified vision for energy transformation in Africa, which will be presented at the COP27 climate summit scheduled to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh on the seventh of November.
El Molla pointed out the importance of continuing coordination and joint cooperation with the African Union, with Egypt taking the lead in the energy file in the African continent during the COP27 climate summit and announcing a unified African position on the issue of a just energy transition according to a gradual timetable and working to provide the large and growing needs in the countries of the continent to achieve sustainable development.


Meanwhile, Abou-Zeid highlighted the importance of finding ways to maximize cooperation between countries of the African continent in the field of energy in particular, given its importance and its fundamental role in achieving stability and development.
Oil and gas are among the important sources of energy for African countries to contribute to sustainable development, Abou-Zeid noted, referring to the importance of new and renewable energy according to a timetable that corresponds to the conditions and priorities of each country and the conditions of the African continent in general.


Additionally, Abou-Zeid stressed the importance of having a unified African strategy for the energy transformation on the continent and the importance of supporting integration among African countries in order to work on securing energy sources through integrated systems with countries, which contributes to opening markets and exploiting all available economic opportunities
