The House of Representatives approved, in principle, a draft law submitted by the government amending some provisions of the Sports Law promulgated by Law No. 71 of 2017, in addition to two other draft laws submitted by Representatives Khaled Badawi and Aya Madani on the same subject.
Representative Mahmoud Hussein, Chairman of the Youth and Sports Committee in the House of Representatives, presented the report of the joint committee of the Youth and Sports Committee and the Office of the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee, which addressed the philosophy of the draft law. The report revealed that the general philosophy of the draft amendment to the Sports Law is based on a set of fundamental pillars:
Strengthening the role of sports as a means of community development: This is consistent with what has been affirmed by international conventions and United Nations statements.
Balancing Independence and Oversight: The draft law adopts a philosophy that guarantees the independence of sports bodies in accordance with the Olympic Charter, while granting the state (represented by administrative bodies) specific oversight powers to ensure compliance with the law and prevent deviations without compromising the principle of sports independence.
