President Sisi to attend Petersburg Climate Dialogue in Germany

During the visit, El-Sisi will hold bilateral meetings with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and a number of prominent members of the German government, the statement said .

Besides climate protection, which is a mutual priority for both countries, El-Sisi’s visit to Berlin will focus on celebrating 70 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the embassy noted .

The visit will also discuss regional and international relations, the embassy said without elaborating .

The international Petersburg Climate Dialogue has been organised by Germany annually since 2009 ahead of each UN climate change conference to hold discussions and agree on approaches on the next climate conference .

As host of the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in November, Egypt will participate in the Petersburg Climate Dialogue managed by Germany, the embassy said .

El-Sisi’s upcoming visit to Berlin “reaffirms the depth of the German-Egyptian relations and the mutual keenness of the two countries to deepen cooperation in the field of climate and stability in the Middle East,” German Ambassador to Cairo Frank Hartmann said .

Egypt has been coordinating with other countries and international partners on COP27, which it will host in Sharm El-Sheikh city, and the country wishes to focus on ensuring the implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate and turning climate pledges into actions .
