After the launch of the first crewed mission to the moon in half a century... a temporary loss of contact with the Artemis 2 crew
4/2/2026

Contact was temporarily lost between the four astronauts aboard the Orion capsule and mission control on Earth shortly after the launch of the Artemis 2 lunar mission.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said during a press conference that the crew members were able to hear voices from mission control, but mission personnel could not hear the astronauts.

The four astronauts launched aboard the Orion capsule using a Space Launch System rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida, at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday (22:35 GMT). A few hours after launch, the capsule separated from the rocket's main stage.
