The opening session of the third legislative term of the House of Representatives witnessed a rare event: three women chaired the session, a unique parliamentary precedent.
Abla El-Hawary, the oldest member, chaired the opening session of the new House of Representatives, while Samia El-Hadidi and Saja Amr Hindi, the youngest members, chaired the session.
The second legislative term, which began in 2021, saw MP Farida El-Shobashy chair the opening session, assisted by MPs Fatima Selim and Abanoub Azab.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued Decree No. 16 of 2026 appointing 28 members to the House of Representatives, in accordance with the final paragraph of Article 102 of the Constitution. This decree was published in the Official Gazette on January 11, 2026. The Official Gazette also published on the same date Presidential Decree No. 17 of 2026, calling for the House of Representatives to convene for the opening of its first regular session of the third legislative term.
