Ambassador Alaa Moussa, Egypt's ambassador to Beirut, stated that the Lebanese government has affirmed its commitment to initiating the second phase of the weapons control program. He also noted that Egypt is making intensive efforts to de-escalate tensions in southern Lebanon.
Moussa added during a press conference on Monday, following his meeting with the Lebanese Prime Minister, which was broadcast by Cairo News Channel, "We have succeeded in mitigating the potential for further escalation in Lebanon. We are keeping the Lebanese government informed of Egyptian efforts to achieve stability, and we have succeeded, in coordination with our partners, in calming the situation in Lebanon and preventing its escalation.
