The President of Al-Azhar University, Dr. Salama Gomaa Daoud, affirmed that Al-Azhar's mission is global, working to disseminate the moderate approach locally, regionally, and internationally, and that this approach is the secret to Al-Azhar's steadfastness for over a thousand years.
This came during the reception of a Dutch delegation by the President of Al-Azhar University, headed by Dr. Yasser El-Leithy, Dean of Islamic Studies at the Independent University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Visiting Professor at Al-Azhar University, along with Professor Ahmed El-Husseini El-Hamouli and Ahmed Reda El-Naqshbandi, advisors for spiritual care at the Dutch Ministry of Justice's Prison Service, and Sheikh Mohamed Eshfaq, Imam of the Islamic Center in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Also present were Dr. Mahmoud Sadiq, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Mustafa Abdel-Ghani, Vice President of the University for Girls' Branches and International Students Affairs, and Dr. Nahla El-Saidi, Advisor to His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar.
During the meeting, the President of the University reviewed the history and development of Al-Azhar University, noting its significant growth. He pointed out that the university now comprises 107 faculties distributed across all governorates of Egypt, with nearly half a million students enrolled, in addition to approximately 40,000 international students from more than 120 countries worldwide.
