Egypt Wins Membership on the International Maritime Organization Council for 2026/2027

The Cabinet's Media Center published several infographics on its social media platforms, highlighting Egypt's election to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council for the 2026/2027 term, a strategic step towards enhancing the role of Egyptian ports in global trade.

This victory comes as a continuation of Egypt's active presence within the global maritime system and the development of its capabilities in supporting the safety and efficiency of maritime transport. It represents the culmination of the state's efforts in implementing a comprehensive plan to develop Egyptian ports and raise their operational efficiency, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of the maritime transport system and supporting Egypt's position as a regional and global hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade. This comes amidst an unprecedented developmental boom witnessed by the maritime transport sector in recent years, which in turn reflects the growing international confidence in Egypt's maritime role. The infographics showcased the international perspective on the state's efforts in developing its seaports. Egypt advanced four places globally in the UNCTAD Shipping Lines Connectivity Index, reaching 19th place in the third quarter of 2025, compared to 23rd in the same quarter of 2024. Egypt also ranked 23rd globally in the 2024 Seaport Efficiency Index published by the World Economic Forum.
