China's Xinhua News Agency reported that the death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar has exceeded 1,600, with more than 3,400 injured.

The agency confirmed in a report that "according to the information group of the State Administrative Council, 1,644 people were killed, 3,408 injured, and 139 others missing as a result of a powerful earthquake in Myanmar."
