Aboul Gheit: The Arab League considers restoring peace, security and stability in Sudan one of its most important priorities

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said that we are on the cusp of the second year of this bloody conflict, the horrific human tragedies and effects associated with it will be recorded as the worst era in the history of Sudan since independence. Nearly 11 million Sudanese have abandoned their homes and villages to villages and remote places and even to... Neighboring countries, leaving their property and savings vulnerable to looting by armed men, some of whom are not from Sudan itself, at a time when humanitarian activities have almost stopped, and the specter of famine has begun to appear over the country that the region’s hopes were looking forward to being its food basket.

Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, confirmed in the speech he delivered on behalf of Aboul Gheit at the International Humanitarian Conference for Sudan and its Neighbors, held in Paris today, that despite the bloody wounds suffered by the Arab body, the Arab League will continue to consider restoring peace, security and stability in Sudan among Its most important priorities, aware of the centrality and importance of this large country in regional and international security arrangements.
